The Talking Donkey
Why I preach the Cross
Knowing Vs. Believing
1Co 2:14 KJV - But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
After dropping off the kids from school this morning the Lord began to speak to me about the difference between knowing and believing. He said that most Christians today confuse the two. The Apostle Paul, time and time again, mentioned many times that we must “know” this, speaking of the Great Revelation of the Cross. He was so adamant about our need to know this for the simple reason of how can we believe in that which we do not know.
1Co 6:19 KJV - What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
Rom 6:3, 16 KJV - Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? ... Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Rom 7:1 KJV - Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
The point of all this is, and what we must understand, is just because we have knowledge of something doesn’t necessarily mean we have appropriated it to our life which is what “believe” truly means. Believe is an action word, thus if we are truly believing in the Word of God, regardless of what life may through our way, irrespective of how trying the situation may become, we will not falter in what we know to be true and will thus apply God’s Word in each and every situation. Here’s lies the ultimate question, how do we really know if we are believing what we say we know to be true? The answer is quite simple, which is found in Matthew chapter 7:
Mat 7:24-27 KJV - Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
You will know if you are believing what you say you know to be true because when the storms of life come, and they will, when it is all said and done, you will either be found standing or in rubble. Both houses looked the same, they professed to know the same things, but only one was truly applying what it knew to be true and thus was found standing upon the Rock before, during and after the storm. While the other, which had a knowledge of truth, but for whatever reason, did not apply the Truth and was built upon a lie and could not stand against the storm.
We have all been there, none of us have perfectly applied what we know to be true at every stage of life, due to fear or greed, or for whatever the reason which is mostly due to the dominion of the Sin Nature, which if, we would apply the Cross of Christ, which is True, to our everyday living, will break sin’s dominion over us, which is what leads to not following, obeying, and applying God’s Holy and Inerrant Word. I know that was pretty wordy but that is the point and why I preach the Cross. The Cross of Christ is the application of God’s Word to our life. You know this and now it is time to apply what you know through proper belief. The Cross is the answer for which you seek; therefore, do not allow the circumstances of life to cause you to look to the left or to the right, for that is the desire of the enemy. Satan wants to draw our attention from the “only Truth God Works In”, which deep down you know to be true, to somethings else of his making such as humanistic phycology, Hebraic roots, Apostolic Movement, New Age, Word of Faith, Purpose Driven, Smile Gospel, Social Justice, Kingdom Theology, etc., his methods are numerous for sure, which is why the Child of God must be determined today more than ever to know nothing save Christ and Him Crucified.
We have just brushed the surface of what God has for. May we all continue to take the time to know God more, to listen to the still small voice, growing in wisdom and the fear of the Lord. May we all cry out with the same humility and faith as the man who said,
Mar 9:24 KJV - And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
