The Talking Donkey
Why I preach the Cross
“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Tim. 3:15-17
Years ago I had thoughts of owning a Christian book store, but with each and every passing best seller to come along the pike I quickly realized I wouldn’t last long in the business. The true, honest, and accurate books written by men with a authentic heart for the Gospel are few and far between; therefore, most of the so called Christian books on the market today would never find their way on one of my shelves. If what man was writing today had the answer for what ails and torments humanity there would be no need for a second edition or another book, and yet, that is exactly what we have, scores of authors spewing out book after book claiming to have just what you need, the next big thing, your long awaited answer. For instance, if Your Best Life Now, was the answer there would be no need for, Become a Better You, or It’s Your Time, or the Power of I Am, etc. In addition, if The Purpose Driven Life was the answer there would be no need for the Daniel Plan. As well, if The Battle field of the Mind was God’s answer then there would be no need for The Secret Power or Change Your Words Change Your Life. I think you see where I am going with this. God has written ONE best seller and it has been THE BEST SELLER ever since. There is no need for another. Christians today need to beware, for Satan’s ministers come as he comes, a bearer of light, a false light, shinning on a false gospel, offering a false Salvation.
Col 2:8 KJV - Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
The all-sufficiency of Scripture is coming under attack today as never before and much of the attack is coming from what professes to be the Church. Purpose Driven, Hebraic Roots, worldly methods of building congregations, entertainment, 12 step programs, Word of Faith, New Age Mysticism, and of course the Church’s favorite way to deny the Word of God, Humanistic Psychology, with all these declaring that the Word of God is inadequate for Christian living. But Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me” John 10:27. His voice is all we need to hear and the Scriptures are His voice, which are completely and utterly sufficient for all mankind and all that plagues him.
2Pe 1:3-4 KJV - According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the Divine Nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
The Cross of Christ is the foundational Doctrine of the Bible from which all other doctrines flow. If what is being written, proclaim, or read is not founded upon the Way, Truth, and Life then it is another Gospel, which is not another, and those involved walk on the most dangerous of grounds, for the Word of God calls them accursed, (Galatians chapter One).
The Word of God is more than sufficient to meet each and every need whether you have read it once or fifty times. Every time read it is a refreshing and anew, with God revealing Himself in new and greater ways each and every time. It holds the only answer for what holds mankind in bondage, Jesus Christ and Him Crucified.
Psa 119:105 KJV - Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Mar 13:31 KJV - Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
Psa 19:7-11 KJV - The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
